Providing emotional support for people affected by cancer
For more than two decades Mayo Cancer Support has been offering emotional support to people affected by cancer in Co Mayo.
All of the services we provide are available free of charge to service users who can visit our centres in Castlebar, Ballina and Achill, in confidence, knowing that they will be met by someone who understands what they are going through and can offer comfort and help.
Mayo Cancer Support is committed to continuing to develop and meet the cancer needs of people in the Mayo area into the future.
Our Services
-
A listening ear
The impact of a cancer diagnosis can be unprecedented both for the patient and his/her loved ones.
At Mayo Cancer Support we offer a safe space where experienced counsellors, staff members and volunteers are available to help those affected by cancer to talk about their experiences and navigate their way through the illness.
-
A little me time
A Mayo Cancer Support we offer a range of complementary therapies and treatments free of charge to cancer patients/survivors and their loved ones.
These therapies are designed to help the service user to practice relaxation and self-care as helpful coping tools as they progress through their cancer journey.
-
A shared learning experience
Mayo Cancer Support operates bi-annual programmes of varied group-based activities.
Our support groups, classes, workshops and information meetings are geared at exploring a wide range of cancer-related topics that can help attendees through their journey while they also gain support from others through shared experience.
We Are Waiting for Your Call
Asking for help can be one of the most difficult things to do and in times of crisis many of us often force ourselves to seem strong for the benefit of others.
At Mayo Cancer Support our staff, therapists, counsellors and volunteers are ready and able to help share the burden people may find themselves experiencing when a cancer diagnosis impacts them or a loved one.
Our service users can visit or contact our centres in confidence, knowing that they will meet someone who understands what they are going through and can offer comfort and support.
Support Our Work
Mayo Cancer Support must raise approximately €200,000 (90% of our running costs) each year in order to fund the services we provide FREE of charge to people affected by cancer.
